LIGLIG gets artsy // new designs for DXBstore

A new opportunity presented itself and I couldn't wait to try something new.

The limited collection of 30 laptop sleeves were showcased at DXB Store's 3 pop up locations during Art Week in March 2012, at the SIKKA Art Fair, Design Days Dubai and Art Dubai and Traffic's Market of Everything most recently.

The collection includes one of a kind laptop sleeves that are made and cut from up-cycled 4m x 3m vinyl billboard prints of artworks by Emirati Artists Saeed Al Madani, Maitha Bin Demaithan, Nawal Khoory and Fatma Saifan that was originally used for Dubai Culture's Outdoor Art Project in March 2010. Re-appropriating these prints into products to transgress the aesthetics to a new form whilst challenging the divide between art and design and the question of form and function.

The DXB Store is a not-for-profit space that showcases UAE-based creativity, and a platform for limited edition objects, artists’ multiples, jewellery and clothes, designed and made in the UAE. I was so excited to be showcasing alongside many great local and emerging designers. There were some really amazing designs and products being sold at the store.

The most rewarding part has got to be spotting people holding the sleeves around Dubai. I came across the amazing Lucy Chow at Design Days Dubai holding one of the sleeves as a clutch! She loved the oversized look and looked fabulous with it!

I leave you with images hopefully to suffice you until my next blog post (as you know that could be a while)

That's all for now, I might do a 'making of' post as well, so keep an eye out for new posts

I also still have a few sleeves available, and will be contacting retailers, hopefully you get to see them around town soon.

Thanks again to the artists - Saeed Al Madani, Maitha Bin Demaithan, Fatma Saifan, Nawal Khoory, Dubai Culture and DXB Store.
